A peek inside Ralph Lauren’s private garage housing some of the most valuable cars
With the Sultan of Brunei building a garage as big as a King’s palace to house his wonderful car collection, our fashion gurus are no less. The world-renowned Fashion Mogul, Ralph Lauren is known for his amazing clothing line, but what many aren’t aware of is that he is a typical guy when it comes to cars. So here’s giving you an inside look at the designer’s private garage housing his incredible car collection.
Lauren does not collect art, as he believes that “You can’t drive a painting”. He recently renovated a former car dealership’s storage facility near his lavish Westchester, NY estate to house the amazing automotive assemblage, which contains examples of the world’s most valuable cars. Shown here is the Ferrari room. The eye-popping collection of 60-plus vehicles, arranged like a high-end art gallery, are all kept registered and ready to drive anytime the designer feels like going for a spin.
He also owns a cadre of super-rare vehicles including “a 1938 Bugatti coupe, a 1938 Alfa Romeo Mille Miglia roadster, and the world’s only 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK “Count Trossi” roadster.” He loves the fact that every car he has bought has a history, whether as a racing car or as a prototype or, as with his 1971 Mercedes 280SE, in his own life. e bought the Mercedes for $13,000 not long after he had begun his business as an independent designer.
It was an extravagance that offended his backers, given how far from profitability he was then, but Lauren saw it as a chance to make a statement. “I walked into Mercedes on Park Avenue and said I wanted that car, but with a tan top and tan leather seats and a silver body,” he said. “They told me that they didn’t make it that way. But then they did it.”
All the cars in the garage seem to be shiny and sparkling as though they are just bought. Also there are some which go beyond perfection as they have been painted in colors that the billionaire decided were better than the originals.
