India – one word that conjures a million images. Tigers, snake charmers, colors, mysticism, royalty, Rolls Royces, cuisines, arts, dances, plays, music, forts, palaces, temples, monuments, people, mountains, beaches, jungles, deserts, romance, dreams… the list is truly endless. So how does one explore it all in one lifetime? The answer lies on board the Maharajas’ Express.

At Rs 1 lakh per day, the Maharaja Express will criss-cross from Mumbai to Delhi (capital city) and Delhi to Kolkatta, rolling out luxury tourism package en route. Billed as Asia’s costliest train yet, the first one is set to be flagged off from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Station in January. ‘‘This is the first time that Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation have ventured into the luxury sector. Our partner Cox and Kings is well experienced in this sector so we are banking on them,’’ said R Tandon, managing director, IRCTC. While the minimum tariff is being kept at $800 per person per day, the maximum tariff runs up to $2,500. There are four categories of carriages in the train — presidential suite ($2,500), suite ($1,400), deluxe cabin ($900) and junior suite ($800).
For all the money you spend on your luxurious travel you’ll be provided with an extra-ordinary royal treatment. Some of the features of the Maharaja Express include:
