It sure looks expensive, and at $135,000, the Goldmund Eidos Reference Blu-ray player is definitely in the upper-crust of the Blu-ray players in terms of cost. Hand-built in Geneva, the Eidos Reference Blu is a truly rarefied design from 66 pounds of brass, aluminum and various electronics, and comes suspended on 4 spring-loaded legs sitting atop its own custom table.
The power supply is completely isolated from the mechanism, and something called Goldmund Magnetic Damping is said to greatly improve image stability and sonic transparency. On the flip side, while Goldmund calls the Eidos Reference Blue a “universal” player, it can’t play DVD-Audio or SACD. Goldmund is a renowned firm and provides some totally outstanding products. If you think you really want to buy this one here, then you better be fast as only 50 units are available.
