Iconic MJ glove sold for $57,600
Remember that bejeweled iconic glove worn by MJ? We told you about it being auctioned. The glove sparked a frenzied bidding war at auction in Melbourne last night, fetching almost twice its estimated sale price. Bids at Melbourne auction house Bonhams and Goodman sailed past the knock-down estimate of $30,000 within minutes.

It eventually went for $57,600 in a telephone bid from Warwick Stone, a buyer for Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. ”We are very happy with the result,” she said. ”It’s the first glove we know about in Australia.” Jackson, who died in June aged 50, visited Sydney in 1996 on his HIStory world tour when he attended the Australian premiere for the film Ghosts, in which he had the starring role. Music journalist Peter Holmes and his friend, Bill Hibble, seated close to Jackson’s entourage, were among the few who laughed at the jokes featured in the film, and were rewarded with the bejeweled glove that Jackson flung in their direction. Mr. Hibble, now dead, caught the entertainer’s glove. Ms Stanes said three similar gloves would be auctioned in the US later this year.
