A new luxury hotel is opening in September 2009 on top of a cliff overlooking the sandy beach of Mawgan Porth, Newquay in south-west England. This new boutique hotel called ‘The Scarlet’ is one of Cornwall’s premier luxury and eco hotels. The Scarlet is said to combine great design and environmental integrity with exemplary service.

Arranged over 5 levels, their 37 stunning bedrooms are all built to make the most of the dramatic view. Each room boasts its own individual outside space, ranging from private courtyard garden terraces to balconies. Contemporary interiors reflect the natural world through the sensuous use of materials and unexpected one-off pieces, with both comfort and design in mind. A place where you can eat, dream and play in peace, influenced only by the natural rhythms of Mother Nature, The Scarlet is an individual retreat for all seasons. And here comes the most interesting part, The Scarlet will boast of a beautiful Ayurvedic spa. The spa has tented rooms and is essentially a quiet, almost spiritual place, lit inside by lanterns. The relaxation area has cocoon like pods swinging from the ceiling where you can drift away following your treatment. There is a big squishy relaxation space where you can chill out or listen to local stories. Outside, a log fired hot tub invites you to stargaze or storm watch. A sauna, a Hammam room, a couples suite for massage tuition and mud experiences, a natural chemical-free pool cleaned by reeds; eco has never felt so good.

“We are very proud of the hotel that we have built and the painstaking efforts that we have made to protect and harmonise with our unique environment. We like to think that we’ve put our money where our mouth is and are leading by example, showing that great design can go hand in hand with sustainability”, says Nikki Broom, General Manager.
