Turning 50 means a Golden Anniversary for most of us, but for Topps Baseball Cards – its their 60th anniversary that really counted. They celebrated that one by placing real diamonds on to the baseball cards. They are now planning on following that up by using real gold in their cards.
In every sixth pack of 2012 Topps, collectors will find a Golden Giveaway code card that could potentially unlock a Golden Moments version of any card in the set with a piece of real gold embedded into it. To be found in packs are are 15 one-of-a-kind Solid Golden Greats cards (like the Joe DiMaggio card seen here) made of solid gold as well as Golden Moments 24-karat gold leaf cards with the foil stamping made of the precious medal instead of foil. Also to be found are autographed gold coin cards, which will be limited to just five copies apiece along with 1/1 gold-embedded Golden Moments die-cut Chromes.
The 2012 Baseball Card Set is promised by Topps to be a game changer in terms of baseball cards. Topps shall also be releasing autogrpahed cards (limited numbers) which can be found by a few lucky buyers in their sets.
The base set will consist of 330 cards, comprised of 265 veterans, 30 rookies, 10 league leaders, four award-winners, five record-breakers, four World Series highlight cards and 10 career statistical leaders.
