  • Spirit of Unity : Limited Edition Whiskey unites Humanity against Nature.

    April 25, 2011 | Posted by

Going as records go, this whiskey could easily win the title of the most unique one on the planet. Moved by the plight of the millions of Japanese who continue to suffer weeks after the devastating earthquake, seven distilleries have come together to create a whiskey never seen before. This limited edition alcohol also has the distinction of being completely sold out even before a single one is bottled. Only 2000 bottles are to be produced.

The idea came from Euan Mitchell, managing director of Isle of Arran Distillers. Seven independent Scottish distilleries have each donated a cask of premium single malt whiskey. These will be used to create the ‘Spirit of Unity’. About 1200 of these bottles will be sold in the United Kingdom itself at 59 pounds ($100) each.

Almost $130,000 are expected to be raised by the sale of this whiskey – all of which will be donated to the disaster relief effort in Japan. Even the bottling has been sponsored – thus no costs are to be passed on to the consumers or make a cent of earning for the producers.

The independent distilleries – Arran, BenRiach, Bladnoch, GlenDronach, Mitchell’s Glengyle, Kilchoman and Springbank took part in this idea. Some bottles may also be donated to New Zealand for sale and proceeds to be used for relief efforts in Christchurch.
