While the Japanese are well known for being these super efficient human beings with a taste of all things tech ; they do have some super weird likings too. Take the Kin no Unko for instance. Translated it literally means the Golden Poo and the picture alongside should show you that you understood exactly what we meant.
Japan Times throws some light on this crazy phenomenon ‘ Kin no Unko (The Golden Poo), a name that plays on the fact that the Japanese word for poop (unko) starts with the same “oon” sound as a completely unrelated word that means “luck.” Japanese enjoy this kind of pun — traditional storytelling is full of them — which may help explain why more than 2.5 million of the lucky little loads have sold in the last seven years.’
2.5 million! So the figures do say it all. Each ‘load’ is coated with the real deal – 24 karat gold and is usually sold on an imperial red cushion. Prices range from 100 yen to 2100 yen
(USD $1 to $21).
