Golden Baseball for the 2011 State Farm Home Run Derby
Gold comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes; that much we knew. But Gold leather is a first, even for this luxury blog that deals with all sorts of precious materials on a daily basis. Rawlings Sporting Goods Company and the Major League Baseball Properties have unveiled the new, special edition “gold ball” for the 2011 State Farm Home Run Derby in Phoenix, Monday, July 11.
One of the leather panels of this special ball is infused with actual 24-karat gold leather crafted by Rawlings and Gold Sport Collectibles. This is the first time a league-standard baseball made with 24-karat leather will be featured as the official gold ball for the State Farm Home Run Derby.
The special gold ball will be thrown to each Derby participant once he reaches the final out of each at bat. For each gold ball home run, $18,000 shall be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Derby participants will be happy to know that the ball’s behavior / weight do not change in any manner despite being infused with gold. The ball is being created by New York City-based Gold Sport Collectibles.
It is possibly, the first time in the history of baseball that a gold infused ball shall be used to play the game. The balls will also be sold at a retail price of $149.99 through the dealer network of Rawlings and Gold Sport Collectibles as well as on the web from Gold Collectibles. Each ball comes with a display case as well as an official certificate of authenticity.
