Gold Torpedo Cigar

The Gold Torpedo involves wrapping smooth gold leaves onto a Red Label cigar and convincing the world that 80% of this cigars flavor comes from gold. Each cigar takes a painstaking 45 minutes to wrap in a process that includes carefully sandpapering the wrappers beforehand to make them even smoother. The cigars are made by Giusto Manetti Battiloro, one of the world’s oldest gold-leaf manufacturers.

All DM 2 Gold Torpedo’s are made to a single size and priced at $200 each. A signed and numbered (limited edition) burlwood travel humidor is sold at a discounted rate of $1000. The humidor contains 5 cigars.

So while we hope you don’t smoke, if you must do it as a once in a lifetime experience then the Gold Torpedo is definitely the way to go. Mind you though, that owing to the high flashpoint of gold, you would best light up this beauty with a butane torch. The cigar itself, a Nicaraguan puro, consists of a full-bodied Jalapa filler blend, a milder Estelí binder, and, underneath the gold leaf, a rich Cuban-seed wrapper that has been aged five years. The cigar is hand rolled in Nicaragua under the supervision of Manuel Quesada, using tobaccos grown by Nestor Plasencia. Its rich flavors brim with coffee intermixed with cinnamon and a hint of citrus in the finish.

Richard Hacker of the Robb Report mentions that gold despite its allure is not the best material to coat a cigar with. To put it simply, in his own words, while tobacco breathes, gold does not. The burn rate of this otherwise easy-drawing cigar is impeded, requiring numerous relightings or constant puffing, which makes the tobacco smoke hotter.

The best part of smoking this gold cigar is the fine golden ash that it leaves behind; besides the ash it also leaves behind a feeling of finally having arrived in life and a tick on one of the things that one needs to do once in a lifetime.

The limited edition of C-3PO and R2-D2 statues (in gold and silver respectively) are limited to just 35 figurines of each. The number 35 is also the weight of the two statues (in grams thus making it 0.077 pounds) thus paying a tribute to the 35th anniversary. The figures are official merchandise and are officially licensed by Lucasfilm Ltd. Both figures come protected by bell jars so that you can store them in pristine condition for a long time.

Dimensions of C-3PO are 100×48×32 mm (4 x 1.92 x 1.28”) while that of R2-D2 are 60×39×36 mm (2.4 x 1.56 x 1.44”). For a true Star Wars collector, the figures are surprisingly affordable (especially when you consider the price of gold and silver) ; the C-3PO costs $6000 while the R2-D2 costs about $1800.

Rolls Royce Phantom Hearse

We admit that Biemme ought to call the hearse something other than a ‘Phantom’ ; but since the car has already been announced we guess that it’s too late. The Rolls Royce Phantom Hearse B12 is supposed to be the world’s most luxurious and expensive funeral car.

The vehicle will be officially announced at the Tan Expo funeral home show in Bologna, Italy. The hearse is a stunning 23 feet (176 inches) long which makes it even longer then what Rolls designed.

The cost to any funeral home that desires to have one of these luxury hearses is going to be a cool half million Euros (approximately $660,000). Made entirely from aluminium, the Phantom hearse will have a self leveling air suspension (we certainly were not joking when we said luxurious last ride) and is powered by a Rolls Royce 6.75 liter V12 engine.

Pope Benedict XVI Orders Customised Scent

However that is exactly what the Bishop of Rome has ordained. The task has been assigned to celebrity perfume-maker Silvana Casoli which will make Pope Benedict XVI the only person on the planet to have his own fragrance. The scent shall never be duplicated again.

Casoli refused to comment on the details of her perfume (and refused to even give the name of the scent). The only thing that was picked up was that the scent was inspired by the pope’s love of “nature” and used a blend of fragrances from lime-wood, verbena and grass.

The 85 year old Pope is the head of the Roman Catholic church which with over a billion members is the worlds largest Christian church. The net worth of the Church could be said to be invaluable given the art and historical treasures that are stored within it.

Pope Benedict is said to love his material treasures given that he pays close attention to detail in his papal clothing. The current Pope has also re-introduced a number of items to his attire such as a fur-lined deep red cape. He is said to have wore Prada shoes and Gucci sunglasses shortly after being elected Pope (since denied by his entourage).

Silvana Casoli had previously created two perfumes for pilgrims on pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. The Water of Faith and Water of Hope were so popular amongst pilgrims that a few samples reached the Pope. The Holy See must have liked the smell, since Casoli was then given the task of creating a special cologne for the Pope. She took several months to create the scent.

“I realized that an essence like this had to have at its core something pure and clean, recalling the idea of peace,” she said. “I thought of the smells the pope would smell when praying at the Grotto of Lourdes” and about “his love for music, animals, green Bavarian forests.”
