Several dog owners prefer to call themselves as the parents of their adopted pet rather then the owners. The love that a dog can give its masters / owners / parents is selfless and unconditional which leads to a lot of health benefits. But in at least one case, it has led to a lot of economic benefits as well.
Tibetan Mastiffs are well known for being the most expensive dogs in the world. Pups of this breed often sell for ridiculous sums with a million pound price tag not unheard of. So when this proud owner declared that her Tibetan Mastiff bitch (Black Pearl) had given birth to a litter of 22 healthy puppies, we did the math. At $200,000 a pup and 22 pups in a litter ; the owner is looking at about $35.2 million dollars. While our estimate may be on the higher side, the owner (Quingcai Guo) is definitely looking at making several million dollars.
Black Pearl has also broken the record for the largest litter for a Tibetan Mastiff. It is also one of the largest ever recorded (though that record stands at an astounding 24 pups). The usual for a Tibetan Mastiff is four or five puppies. The fact that the owner runs a pet shop does make us a bit suspicious as to whether Black Pearl is being used to breed puppies. Guo though claims to have treated the dog as his own child giving her nothing but the best ever since a friend gave him Black Pearl. The proud human parents are now helping the new mom with her puppies with bottles of milk all around the clock.
